Rotating Fixtures
Challenge: Design and build a welding rework fixture that helps operators weld frames from various angles and positions.
Solution: The fixture allows operators to easily load and unload the frame into the fixture. A series of pins and clamps secure the frame in common features on the frame.
A base frame with bearings on each end supports the frame and allows it to rotate. Stub shafts on each end of the rotation fixture mate with the bearings, allowing the operator to rotate the fixture as if it were mounted in a lathe. A counter weight provides a neutral center of gravity in line with the bearings. An air motor with manual valve and gear box allows the operator to rotate the fixture by operating the valve in either direction.
