O-Ring Installation / Inspection
Challenge: Install O-rings and provide 100 percent visual inspection for automotive plastic bushings.
Solution: The machine consists of a bowl feeder to load bushings into the machine, a pneumatic walking beam to transfer the bushings from station to station, a bowl feeder to present O-rings, a servo pick and place to load O-rings onto the bushings, and a series of cameras and a precision scale to inspect the finished bushings.
The machine runs at fifteen parts per minute, loading two O-rings per bushing. Vision system cameras inspect for:
- Short shots
- Broken bushings
- Bushing orientation
- O-ring presence
- O-ring position
- O-ring color
- Bushing overall height
- O-ring outside diameter after installation
Good parts are placed in one of two good part bins, while any parts failing inspection are placed into a locking reject bin.
